Designing What Comes Next

Retirement is often described as an ending. It can also be described as a new beginning!

A new chapter.

One that invites a different kind of thinking.

Beginning with Clarity

As you step closer to retirement, there can be a natural tendency to ask:

What should I do next?

Where do I begin?

What matters most to me now?

Clarity often comes before decisions.

Before planning.

Before action.

It begins with taking the time to reflect.

Designing What Comes Next

As that clarity begins to take shape, something else often begins to emerge.

A sense of direction.

Not all at once.

And not in a fully defined way.

Just an early sense of what feels meaningful.

You may begin to notice:

What you are drawn toWhat feels importantWhat you would like more of in your life (and less of, or not at all!)

From there, you can begin to shape your days more intentionally.

Taking Small Steps

This doesn’t need to be a big leap.

It often begins with small steps.

Trying something new.Revisiting something familiar.Making small shifts in how you spend your time.

These steps create movement.

And over time, they begin to build momentum.

Reviewing and Adjusting

As you move forward, your perspective may continue to evolve.

What felt right at one point may begin to shift.

And that is part of the process. I had a wise advisor in my graduate program who often reminded me not to “fight the process.” That is where the learning is.

Learning about who you are now and how you want to be in this most exciting phase of your life.

Taking time to pause, reflect, and adjust allows your next chapter to continue unfolding in a way that feels aligned.

A Question to Carry With You

As you think about what comes next, you might begin with:

What feels most important to me now?
